FLOOR_STORY is East London’s friendliest rug dealer and is renowned for their bold, innovative rug designs. As a creative challenge, my boss commissioned me to design a flat-weave kilim rug. I was inspired by the bold colour blocking of Josef Albers as well as the geometric patterns I found while living in Dakar, Senegal.

The name Wakaam pays tribute to the colourful rugs I used to purchase (and woven by women from recycled plastic) at the Wakaam Market in Dakar, Senegal.
